I knew I was a real author when a young girl bravely came up to me after I read Bob’s Birthday Blobs to her class and asked. “Why did you write this book?” I smiled and responded, “For smart girls like you to enjoy, and It has a cool art project that is easy to do.”

That evening I was thinking about my response to that student. Why did I write this book? Here are some of the inspirations that led to the writing of the story, Bob’s Birthday Blobs.

  • Being a former preschool teacher it is always a bonus to have a book and an art project at your fingertips.
  • I truly like the name Bob. It is a phonetically sound name and it is a palindrome word! Palindromes are words that can be spelled the same backwards and forwards.
  • It is my hope that this book will be used to teach an alphabet letter in a fun way.
  • Write a list of all of the items that start with b that you and your child see on pages 4-5 of the book. Just write them down in a list, read them back to the student and have them underline the letter b in each word. Presto-you have completed a reading lesson! (You do not have to be a teacher to do so!)
  • The letter b is one of those reversal letters so don’t panic if you see it written like a d. Just notice this. Here is a tip to help students write the letter b correctly. The bat and ball lesson- first you draw a bat and then on the right of it place the ball. Many students will reverse b and d -they may just be tired that day don’t panic. If this is a recurring problem, please mention this to their educator and get some intervention from a qualified professional.Early intervention truly can straighten out visual challenges.
  • I have never met a child whose eyes don’t light up at the thought of their birthday! Plus birthday begins with the letter B!
  • Every year that I taught, I would teach the blob art project to the students. This project was always a classroom favorite! I loved how the kids smiled as they opened up their paper to see their creation.
  • I love dogs, yet we all know how much of a mess they can make! Children can relate to making an impulsive mistake and then being forgiven for it.

It is my hope that the writing of this book will foster creativity, give you confidence as a teacher of your student or child, and create an opportunity for early readers to grow through its easy vocabulary and accompanying art project. Have Fun!
